 Are you looking for a unique gift idea? West Somerset Railway have many events that take place throughout the year that would make a great gift to a newly wed couple to enjoy together. 
Our Railway, a true country branch line of the old Great Western Railway is full of fascination whether you are looking for a nostalgic ride back in time through lovely countryside or to study the railway and industrial heritage which our line preserves. The historic steam locomotives, coaches and wagons, and the buildings of our ten unique stations linked by a twenty mile scenic journey will repay hours of exploration. The surrounding countryside is as varied as it is beautiful. The gently rolling Quantock hills and distant Exmoor, unspoilt villages and farms nestling in leafy lanes, the cliffs and coast of the Bristol Channel with views of distant South-Wales, confident Church Towers, Dunster's imposing Castle and Minehead's seaside charm are all waiting to be discovered.

There are toilets on each train. Disabled persons accessible toilets are available at Bishops Lydeard, Crowcombe Heathfield, Stogumber Watchet and Minehead stations.

We can carry passengers in wheelchairs in our trains. Please let us know as space is limited and we can book you seats in advance on 01643 700384. Disabled toilets are available in our Lorna Doone carriage which can be booked in advance.

Dogs are welcome on our service trains and are charged £2.00 per dog.

There is a buffet car on most of our trains selling a variety of light refreshments a large number of which are locally produced. Please see the catering page for more information about our catering services.

Driver Experience Charters

The West Somerset Railway can offer you a premium private 'Driver Experience Charter' for the day whereby you can charter one of our home fleet or visiting locomotives for the day for the ultimate in driver experience days.
No previous experience necessary.  The West Somerset Railway will tailor the day to match your previous level of experience.
Locomotives are subject to availability and applicants must be reasonably fit.
Price: Dependent on locomotive, hire charge and number of miles required for charter.

Murder Mystery Specials
Calling all amateur sleuths!! -Do you see yourself as a Miss Marple or a Jessica Fletcher, Hercule Poirot or Sherlock Holmes? Well, the West Somerset Railway's Murder Mystery season is a must for all you amateur crime fighters. As you go peacefully about your train journey to and from the seaside the actors of Art Deco Productions will be staging a murderous tale for you to try to solve.
Apart from the dastardly doings your steam train ride will also include the following menu choices served to you at your seat as the train leaves Bishops Lydeard at 19.00 plus of course the mystery unfolding before your eyes.

All trains depart from Bishops Lydeard at 19:00 and travel the full length of the line to Minehead and back.You should arrive back at Bishops Lydeard at approx. 22.00.

Pre-book only. All prices listed are per person. No concessions. No dogs. Adults only.

Summer Special - Picnic Ticket £35, Somerset Seaside Supper Ticket £45
For this date only our dining facilities are not available, so you are invited to bring your own picnic or choose our Somerset Seaside Supper.

Picnic Ticket £35 - Your tables will be laid with cutlery and crockery and there will be table water provided and a complimentary drink (pint of beer or cider, glass of wine, or fruit juice), plus coffee or tea on the return journey. There will also be a bar open on board the train for the purchase of further drinks and so we ask you not to bring your own drinks.

Somerset Seaside Supper Ticket £45 - If you do not wish to bring their own picnic we will provide a ‘Somerset Seaside Supper’ comprising local fish and chips and a Styles Luxury Ice Cream Tub. All other details are as for Picnic Tickets.
Plot: NO RATION FOR MURDER - War may be raging on the continent but back home life must go on - but not for Farmer Cyst - he's just been found murdered on his way to market! Who could have wanted him dead? Could flirty young Dee Peat have been too hot for him to handle? Has local spiv Stanley Knyffe made him a final offer? Or has Land Army girl Molly Coddle been pulling more than just potatoes? Luckily Detective Inspector Bauls is on hand to keep you steaming ahead with your investigations.

Plot: ANOTHER OP'NING, ANOTHER MURDER - The progressive Repertory Artistic Theatrical Strollers are on tour and due in Little Hampton. But the train must wait and the show may not go on, as leading lady, Carment Rollers has been found murdered in her first class compartment. Is ingénue actress Mae Kupp desperate for a bigger part? Is manager Ivor Bucking looking to fill a vacancy? Or has elderley actress, Dame Artvest played out her final scene? As ever, DI Archie Bauls is on hand to set the scene and assist your enquiries before the final curtain comes down on your investigation.

Plot: THE TWELVE DEATHS OF CHRISTMAS - It's Christmas time once again and the Thymely villagers are gathered to celebrate what should be the season of peace and goodwill. However, there have already been eleven mysterious deaths associated with the popular Christmas song and everyone is wondering who will be next? Has postmistress, Trixie Truelove delivered her last card? has sweet Polly Peartree handled her last fruit? Can Peter Partridge stop looking so nervous? Can you help DI Archie Bauls solve the previous murders before the killer strikes for the twelfth and final time?
